RAWK was founded three years ago to give students, parents, volunteers, and educators a resource for strengthening the academic skills of children while building their self-esteem and empathy for others.
RAWK helps cultivate reading and writing skills with youth, pre-K through high school, via creative writing workshops, reading-themed events, publishing student work, partnering with other organizations and agencies in the community, providing both in-school and after-school programs. Their vision, as a nonprofit organization, is one that celebrates and amplifies youth voices in Kalamazoo. They believe every student relies on an invested community.
RAWK has many opportunities for people in the community to volunteer in programs, and behind-the-scenes planning for fundraisers and special events.
